In 1854, riverboat pilot Joseph "Big Joe" Perro purchased land in and around what was then known as Spring Creek, near the village of South Stillwater, renamed Bayport in 1922. Spring Creek is known today as Perro Creek. The rolling hills of the development sit west and overlook, what was known in the 1840's as Spring Creek.
